A stylish retreat in the Art Deco/Art Nouveau style with an English cottage vibe | House in Wurzbach
2 Bedroom House in Heberndorf, Wurzbach
A unique vacation home for people who love beautiful spaces, nature, and tranquility.
The vacation home is a uniquely designed retreat on the edge of the Thuringian Forest—a house with history, character, and many charming details.
It combines Art Deco elements, Art Nouveau details, and the warm atmosphere of an English cottage. Vibrant colors, unique wallpaper, carefully selected antique and modern furniture, books, and traditional stoves define the rooms.
Visitors won’t find a cookie-cutter, over-styled vacation rental here, but rather a home with its own distinct personality.
Living Area
The living room is the cozy heart of the home. A comfortable sofa and armchairs offer plenty of space for reading, listening to music, chatting, or simply relaxing. On cooler days, the wood-burning stove provides extra warmth and coziness.
There is deliberately no television. Instead, there are books, a piano, and board games.
Kitchen & Utility Room
The kitchen is fully equipped and offers everything you need for a longer stay and for proper cooking. A separate pantry provides additional space for supplies.
A traditional kitchen stove makes the kitchen a wonderfully cozy place, especially during the cooler months.
Adjacent to this is the utility room, equipped with a washing machine, dryer, ironing board, and iron. This ensures you have everything you need, especially during longer stays. There is also an additional bathtub and sink here.
Bathroom
The newly redesigned main bathroom combines classic style with modern comfort. It features:
a freestanding bathtub in a classic style
a separate shower
a double sink
a toilet
There is also a separate guest restroom on the ground floor.
The house is equipped with smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector.
Bedrooms
There are two bedrooms on the upper floor.
The large bedroom features a high-quality 1.80 m wide double bed and, with its distinctive colors and details, is just as uniquely designed as the rest of the house.
The smaller bedroom is furnished with a single bed and a built-in closet, offering a cozy retreat for one more person.
This makes the house particularly well-suited for two to three people.
Library & West-Facing Balcony
Bookshelves, a desk, and a wood-burning stove make the library a wonderful place to read, write, or work. If you’d like to stay a few days longer and get some work done in between, you’ll find a private space here away from the rest of the living areas. High-speed Wi-Fi is available.
The library opens directly onto the west-facing balcony. In the evening, this is the perfect spot to wind down and enjoy the view of the setting sun—perhaps with a glass of wine and a good book.
A balcony solar power system helps supply electricity to the house.
Garden
The house has its own garden, which is gradually being transformed into an English cottage garden.
Tulips bloom in the spring, followed by roses and perennials. Fruit bushes and grapevines grow in the garden, and guests are, of course, welcome to help themselves.
Garden furniture and a grill are available for guests’ use. The garden offers space to sit, read, eat, and simply enjoy the outdoors.
Firewood for the stoves is also provided.
Nature & Surroundings
The house is situated in a quiet, natural setting in the Thuringian Slate Mountains. The forests begin practically at the front door, and the famous Rennsteig trail runs just a few kilometers away.
The surrounding area is ideal for hiking, biking, and nature watching. In winter, the region offers opportunities for cross-country skiing and downhill skiing.
With a little luck, you can spot animals in the vast forests that are rarely seen elsewhere—including mouflon. Lynx have also returned to the region.
There’s plenty to discover on day trips, including the Saalfelder Fairy Grottoes, the historic Heinrichshütte in Wurzbach, and the region’s former slate mines.
In the neighboring town of Weitisberga, there’s a small, idyllic forest swimming pool—perfect for warm summer days.
If you’re looking for warmth and relaxation after a hike or just to take a break, the Ardesia-Therme in Bad Lobenstein is just a short drive away. The thermal baths and sauna area make it a wonderful destination, especially on cooler or rainy days and in the winter.

Notes
There is a manufacturing plant in the immediate vicinity. The factory is not visible from the house or the garden and is generally not noticeable during your stay. There is no noise or odor nuisance caused by production.
On weekdays, trucks occasionally drive to the factory. Additionally, there may be slightly more traffic on the street for about 20 minutes during the afternoon shift change. Outside of these brief periods, the location is very quiet.
The vacation home is a personally designed space that I enjoy sharing with my guests. I welcome people who appreciate its unique character, feel at home here, and treat the house and everything in it with care.
